DUSHARIN:
When we arrived at Kashgar I found myself expecting something exciting and unusual. There was nothing special. It was an ordinary Asian town: dirty streets, bazaar, shops, and offices.
VOLKOV:
The hotel we stayed at claimed excellent comforts and services. But, by our standards, it really sucked. Besides, we had to pay about $35 per person per night.
On Kashgar bazaar
DUSHARIN:
We got settled and went for dinner. The Chinese were finally entertaining us with some exotic traditions: a rotating table, chopsticks, different vegetables. The beer was awesome in Kashgar. After dinner, the guys went to town. Andrei and I started preparing the documents so as to be ready to hold negotiations with the Chinese. We worked diligently throughout the evening.
VOLKOV:
In the evening, we held negotiations. Du Xiao Fun introduced our liaison officer, Mr. Hu.. Even though Mr. Hu was our liaison officer, I don't remember him saying one word. We discussed a few details, and began the negotiations concerning money. Du Xiao Fun was offended and speechless when we proposed paying in two separate intervals. He needed to take a break to recover. It was a useless discussion. We wouldn't get our way. As a result, we paid in advance. Afterwards we were thrilled that it all worked out!
