DUSHARIN:
On the 18th of August, after having a rest in the base camp, the group of Udin descended to the "Chinese camp". Volodya asked me about the plan of the expedition's work in the nearest future. I said that the tragedy had changed our plans. The goal would be to find Igor's body and to shoot it on a video if possible (carrying a body down from that altitude is absolutely impossible). It was impossible to carry the body down. We could only attempt to summit, if weather conditions were acceptable. While we were in the base camp waiting for the weather, Luba checked our physical condition. The guys were recovering little by little. Sergei Sokolov had troubles with his frostbitten feet. I think that Luba, giving some injections and pills, had saved him from amputation. Sergei Penzov was also frostbitten, but much less serious. Misha Ishutin felt worst then others, he was coming to himself very slow. Volodya Udin had serious bronchial troubles. He insisted on one more attempt, but Luba strongly objected that it would be fatal for him to ascent above 8,000m. So after the examination I said that only 7 people could go up. They were all four guys from my group, two from the group of Udin (Jirakovskiy and Meshkov) and Andrei Mariev from the group of Dosaev.

VOLKOV:
Carlos stayed with us in the base camp. By walkie-talkie he said to Krzysztof that he would stay with the Russians up to the end of the expedition. Krzysztof wished him good luck. According to the idea of Kolesnichenko, we separated into two groups. The first group consisted of Ivan, Andrei Mariev and me, and the rest of the guys made up another group. We planned to start going on the August, the 20th, but the weather was storming.
