"Resting" in the 4th camp
DUSHARIN:
Having met the group of Udin we saw Carlos with them. He had spent the night in the cave and the guys took him up with them. He would stay overnight at 7,100m together with them to get acclimatized. It was the first time for the guys from the group of Udin to have the leading role. By that time we had already switched the roles with the international expedition. The neighbors were feeling that their time is going away and stopped fixing ropes. That's why Udin's quartet had to fix ropes on 3/4 of the section between 7,100m and 7,500m. After that they managed to prepare the flat area on the uncomfortable slope and to set the tent. So the 4th camp had been set on the 30th of July. There was a minimum of equipment: gasoline, the gas stove, sleeping bags and so on. The tent of the international expedition was standing without belay in five meters from our tent. We had to fix the rope between them. The slope was too steep at that place.
Next day showed us that such work always has its consequences. It was a hard job, and the guys had got worked out. They spent the whole day instead of 4 hours to make a descent. They reached the ABC only at 9 p.m. when it started getting dark.
VOLKOV:
Victor Kolesnichenko and I decided to go down to the "Chinese camp" and to have a rest there. It wasn't a real rest, because the whole day of the 30th we were walking down and the next day we were walking up. Our interpreter Yura and Mr. Hu were glad to see us. Frankly speaking, I would never go up, if the 31st was not my birthday. I had got a present. It was a bottle of beer and socks. Those were the right things to present.

DUSHARIN:
At that time the quartet of Sergei Penzov forced their way up the mountain. On the 31st of July they ascended from the 3rd to the 4th camp.
