Volga Automobile Plant
| Stock Company AvtoVAZ is one of the largest car
manufacturers in Russia and Eastern Europe. It’s been operating since 1966. Its
history is in close connection with the Italian auto giant FIAT. The staff of VAZ was
awarded with the diploma and the international prize “Ingersole Rend”, Italy,
for the manufacturing of VAZ. The “Gold Mercurio” Award was given to the plant
three times for manufacturing development and international cooperation. During a 30-year
history, more than 17 million cars known as LADAs to all over the world have been released
from the main conveyor. |
As a stock company, AvtoVAZ was established on January 5th, 1993. The head administrative
body of the company is the annual Stockholders’ Meeting. The plant is administered by
the Board of Directors assisted by five Departments that control different activities of
VAZ.

The plant produces more than 700,000 cars annually. It is located in Togliatti, Samara
region, at the Volga shore, 1,000 km from Moscow. Transport communications and a
development infrastructure provides effective and stable operation of this large
enterprise of the Russian Federation. |
AvtoVAZ began to produce a new mini-car VAZ 110. This new family of cars has better
characteristics and is more comfortable than previous models. VAZ 110 is equipped with
16-valves engine with electronic injection, which improves the dynamic characteristics. At
present, a set of these cars was sent to the main importers of VAZ: Germany, France,
Finland, Poland, Greece, Slovakia. They will examine the cars and make suggestions about
the tuning changes to be made to meet the uniform European standards. A new set is
prepared to be forwarded to the dealers in Italy, Slovenia and Hungary. AvtoVAZ is
constantly carrying out charitable activities and is sponsoring culture and sports,
financially assisting a well-known orchestra Virtuosi of Moscow conducted by
V.Spivakov, and a Togliatti theatre Koleso, etc. AvtoVAZ is one of the founders of
the “Triumph” award, established for literature and cinema achievements.
AvtoVAZ finances promotion of the plant’s ice hockey, soccer, cycling, car racing,
mountain climbing, gymnastics, boxing, etc. teams. AvtoVAZ acts also as a sponsor and
advertiser for many international contests: The World Championships in speedway, boxing,
ice hockey, tournament “Prize of Izvestiya” (the games between Russian, Canadian
and American professional hockey teams). |
Automobile sports at AvtoVAZ have a very rich history. Sports modifications of the car
“Niva” (“Niva-sport” and “Niva-marathon”) are now recognized
as leaders at the international marathon rallies “Paris-Dakar” and
“Paris-Peking”. In 1995, an electric car “Oka-Electra”, produced at
VAZ, was awarded with the 3rd prize in its class at the International Ecological Rally
“Monte-Carlo”.

AvtoVAZ is now actively creating financial structures in Russia and abroad. This helps to
